Key Activities of the Association
- Maintains an annual corporate membership of 170 manufacturer and distributor companies, and 150 retailers.
- Stages the annual MIAC & PAL Trade Shows which now have 200+ exhibitors
(both Canadian and international) and is attended by more than 4500+ Canadian retailers and industry representatives. This
is Canada’s largest music & sound products trade event and is presented in Toronto
each August as a two-day trade show with seminars and social events. Canada is currently ranked as the 6th largest music and sound products market in the world (In 2007 Canada's per capita spending on music and sound products was $24.36 or a close second to the U.S per capita market at $24.95).
- Publishes "MIAC E-News" a regular electronic newsletter for the Canadian products
industry, as well as the "MIAC News" column in the bi-monthly Canadian Music Trade magazine.
- Collects and publishes regular Canadian industry sales and import data through the
"MIAC Select 12" barometer, annual membership sales surveys, and quarterly Statistics Canada
summaries.
- Maintains Canadian industry web sites - www.miac.net & www.thepalshow.com - as information sources
for all Association activities and programs. The site includes membership lists,
Board of Directors, mission statement, activity summaries, and statistics.
- Supports the Coalition for Music Education in Canada (CMEC) developing school music
programs across the country.
- Provides education scholarships to MusicFest Canada for the encouragement of young musical
talent. Through the MIAC Music Education Fund provides education scholarships and grants to Canadian Organizations for the encouragement and development of young musical talent.
- Offers an industry group insurance plan through Morneau and Associates of Toronto and a discount courier program through DHL Express (Canada), Ltd.
- Liaises with NAMM (the International Music Products Association) by presenting a MIAC exhibit
at the annual Winter NAMM Show, plus presents periodic NAMM University seminars at the MIAC
Show. NAMM also exhibits at each MIAC Show.
- Represents Canada at the International Coalition Committee (Global Economic Summit)
for the worldwide music products industry.
